Outreach
The goals of our outreach are to stimulate and support STEM awareness, curiosity, and inspire the underrepresented and underserved youth of Houston. Further goals include highlighting reasons to pursue a career in science and technology while ultimately promoting remaining in school for post-secondary education to students in “dropout factory” schools (less than 60% of students remaining in school through the 12th grade). Additionally, we will align our activities and demonstrations to help teachers meet teaching objectives and state standards. Finally, we hope to motivate others to participate in NASA education and internships.
The outreach will reach these goals through visiting k-12 students, perform activities demonstrating electromagnetic phenomena, and expose opportunities and relationships to the students in areas they are usually overlooked. We will release our contact information to the schools, students, teachers, press, and the general public and encourage questions (both technical and nontechnical). We wish to develop mentor/mentee relationships with students and give advice to all willing to listen.
